QUESTION

SSI was canceled after failing to report checking account

Asked on Feb 18th, 2021 on Social Security - Texas
More details to this question:
My SSI was canceled after I failed to report a savings account and a checking account. They found out prior to me changing the direct deposit. I did not appeal at the time. I was married and my ex wife assured me I did not need to with her income. We have been divorced for some time now and I have not been able to go back to work. Can I appeal 2yrs later?

You are beyond your appeal period to argue the facts of the overpayment via a reconsideration, unless they grant you "good cause" for filing late. However, You can still file a waiver for forgiveness of the OP if you feel it wasn't your fault and you can't afford to pay it back. You can also file a new SSI claim if you are disabled and have limited income and resources now.
