While your case does involve an motor vehicle accident, you are really asking about criminal law. I do not handle criminal cases so I cannot provide a definitive answer to your question. However, I believe the police can check cameras to see if they show anything about the accident. I do not know if there is a way for you to determine whether there is ongoing investigation into the accident. You may want to re-ask your questions in the "Criminal" and "Criminal Defense" Categories. The attorney there may have better answers for you.

Yes, they can check the cameras if they are aware of them. Yes, you check to see if there is an investigation of the hit and run. You will probably be asked your name and they will keep a record of you inquiry and your telephone. You might end up as on the suspected list by checking up on the investigation.

The police most certainly can check the cameras. My best suggestion is that you go to the police and report the incident. You will be in much more trouble if you don't come forward and they find you.

You have a choice. You can duck and hope they do not find you, or you can turn yourself in. If they find you, they will "hammer" you. If you turn yourself in, they will probably bawl you out and that would be all.

Yes, the police can check the cameras. If the police have sufficient evidence from the camera footage, they can charge you with hit and run. If only property was damaged, the charge is a misdemeanor. If someone was injured, the charge is a felony. Most police departments/officers will not talk with you about on-going investigations. I suggest you speak with a criminal/traffic attorney immediately.

Yes, the cops can check the cameras. You can be charged with leaving the scene of an accident, which is not a very serious charge. I'm sure there is an ongoing investigation if you caused damage. There is no way of knowing if they have leads or what the status is. The only thing I know to do would be to hire an attorney to contact the police, to inform the police that the attorney represents an individual who believes he may be a suspect in this crime, and ask that the police contact the attorney if they decide to make an arrest so that the client can turn him/herself in. What you tell the attorney would be privileged, and they could not force the attorney to reveal you identity. I would just wait, or, if you want to do the right and honorable thing, turn yourself in and admit it. You might get pre-trial intervention.

How about you go turn yourself in and take responsibility for your action? People make mistakes, now you have to deal with it. Yes they can and will check the cameras. Better to get in front of this. Do the right thing.

Call the police and inquire if there is an ongoing investigation. If it was a hit and run, there will undoubtedly be an ongoing investigation. Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident is a felony. Get an attorney now. Let the attorney inquire.

Call your carrier and tell them what happened. They will take care of the damage. If the damage is paid the police and DA will not likely be very interested.
