My car was totalled while parked on the side of the road. The Hartford insurance company is the insurer of the driver who hit it. They sent me a letter(pdf) stating to send some notorized information which I did. I did not have the titlee although i should? The paper works clearly states "If you have the title" send it also. If? I don't so, I sent everything else. I got back a letter sayiing it was not good enough and I needed the title to get reembursed. 2700.00 for the car. I called them and they will not budge. I don't have the resourses to get a new title. I am a full tiime student. It has been two months..

More details to this question:
I just would like to know if I am screwed or not. Is there some step I could take other than the title which again, would take some time to get.
Obviously the Insurance company does not want to pay someone who can not prove he is the owner. The owner can make another claim if they pay the worng person. Also since they are actually paying to buy your car they want the title so that they can salvage the car. If you dont have the titlte you can probably get oine from the DMV but you will have to go there and pay a small fee for a relacement title. Good luck.
