QUESTION

Is it illegal to record a cellphone call involving me?

Asked on Oct 26th, 2020 on Insurance - Florida
More details to this question:
I work in a Florida claims office with an often verbally abusive employer, backstabbing and hypocrite coworkers, who'll throw you under the bus at the first chance they get. On many occasions my employer has verbally and culturally insulted me. It is a privately owned business with no real HR department. I started to record the phone calls between my employer and me, and today, again abusively, they tried to inform me that that was illegal. Am i at wrong recording the calls for self protection?

There is a general rule in life. When someone complains that everyone esle is "against them" its usually the person not everyone else. Especially when you inject that you are "culturally insulted" which suggests some level of "activist" or "provacateur" mentality at issue. That aside, generally recording telephone conversations without the express consent of the other party is a crime, subjects you to civil lawsuit and is not admissiable in court per Fla. Stat. Cjap. 934.
