QUESTION

Can I get more money than my auto policy UMI coverage?

Asked on Oct 19th, 2024 on Insurance - Florida
More details to this question:
I was in a motorcycle accident. The local police said I was the only driver. My investigator stated another vehicle was involved, but left the scene. My insurance company has offered to pay me my max policy coverage for UM. However, the max amount does not cover my injuries. If I accept the payment, I'm being asked to remove my insurance from future claims. I feel I should get more than the max. Do I have to sue my insurance company to get more?

No idea what you mean by simply saying you deserve "the max" and therefore its impossible to properly address your question. That said, you should have a personal injury lawyer handle such a case for a variety of reasons starting with answering your questions and extending to helping identify any issues like liens you might have on your settlement for health insurance, medicare, medicaid, public assistance payments, etc or trying to find the other driver.  This sounds like your insurance carrier is tendering its limits and then intends to drop you as an insured.
