More details to this question:
Couple married for 4 years moved to MI less than 2 years ago. Now mutually agreed to divorce. She has a boyfriend. No family in MI for either parent but much support back home 4 hours away. Must dad stay in MI with their 2 kids or can he go home with them and file, even if she stays in MI?

Dad can move to a different state, resde there the required length of time to satisfy jurisdictional requirements, and file. Taking the minor children with him, however, would not be advised. That could lead to serious ramifications.
