QUESTION

I paid 25,000 to a lawyer upfront to defend my brother. My brother has been in jail since 3/2012 and the lawyer has never been to see him in jail.

Review your contract.  Speak with another lawyer for a second opinion.  As to the jail visit.  There is no need to visit your brother in jail as long as they are otherwise communicating.
