Do Michigan police need a reason to pull you over or run your Michigan plate?

More details to this question:
I was driving my car at a normal speed but was pulled over. I got no answer on why I was pulled over and the police officer ran my plate. I live in Michigan.

The police do not have to have a reason to run your plate. If the police run your plate and determine that there is a warrant or some other reason to stop you, the stop will be legal.

Well there is nothing to keep them form running your plates. However in order to pull you over they need a reasonable cause or suspicion.

You did not mention being ticketed, so I assume that you weren't. Unless you were damaged by being late for wherever you were going at the time, I would forget it.

The Michigan police certainly needed a reason to pull you over. However, they can run your license plate whenever they wish.
